FAQ

The design process starts with an initial phone consultation, during which time we’ll get to know each other. I’ll ask questions about your project, your needs, and your lifestyle to gain an understanding of how we can work together to make your dream space a reality. If we decide to work together, we’ll schedule a 1.5 to 2-hour consultation in order to have a more in-depth conversation as well as do a tour of your space. Once we determine the scope of the project, I’ll prepare a detailed, flat-fee proposal for your review.

How does this process work?

Costs vary depending on the scope and type of project. In addition, my initial consultation fees differ as well, because, depending on whether you’re interested in window treatments, color, or interior design, there is a varying degree of preparation involved. In addition to a traditional consultation, I also offer a free 15-minute digital consult if you send me a photo of your space.

How much does it cost?

I offer computer renderings called elevations that you and I will review prior to project commencement, so you’ll know what your space will look like before we make any purchases.

How do I know whether it will look good when it’s done?

I’m always mindful of the client’s budget, so I often repurpose existing furniture and/or home accessories to add cost-effective and attractive features that personalize your space.

Can I use my current furniture?

How long does it take?

One of the first questions I’ll ask you is if you are redecorating because you are planning an event. Based on that, we’ll decide how best to proceed with ordering items like furniture and window treatments. I wouldn’t want you to plan a party and not have a sofa for your guests! In general, custom furniture tends to take the longest to be delivered—up to twelve weeks—and window treatments can take about four to six weeks.

I have clients in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, and have traveled to decorate second homes for my clients. At my discretion, I may consider traveling as far as across the country for my clients, depending on the size and scope of the project.

How far do you travel?

Hiring an interior designer can be expensive, there’s no doubt about that. That’s why I offer design packages at different levels depending on my clients’ needs. I also offer a consultation-only package created for DIY’ers!

Aren’t interior decorators expensive?

Why do I need custom window fashions?

There are three main reasons to select custom window treatments for your home. One of the most significant reasons for many people is that they will be unique to your home. I will show you samples of beautiful trim, contrast fabrics, and other embellishments that will make your treatments one of a kind. A&J will not offer the same design and fabric combination to any other client.

You’ll also love custom window treatments for their better-quality construction, made for years of lasting beauty. They can be lined and interlined or have mitered corners, hand-sewn trimmings, or passementerie. Whether you choose tassel or bullion fringe, banding or color blocking, or beaded trim, I can design truly exceptional window fashions that you will absolutely love!

Finally, many of today's homes have windows, doors, and other architectural features that present design challenges, and simply cannot be treated with off-the-shelf products. Two-story, transom, and Palladian windows as well as certain architectural details often require creative custom designs that you just can't find in a store or catalog.

I’m committed to providing expertly crafted projects and products to my clients with outstanding attention to detail. Excellent communication throughout the process ensures that the end results exceed your expectations!
