The Latest Lighting Trends
Lights are like the jewelry of your home, and they really can complete "the look." Well-chosen ambient lights add warmth and illumination, while accent lights add sparkle and personality. Of course, even task lights can be more than just utilitarian. Frank Lloyd Wright once said "More and more, so it seems to me, light is the beautifier of the building." Here are some of the latest lighting trends that can beautify your home.
Fun and Funky Chandeliers
I found these awesome and unique chandeliers during my visit to High Point Market. Although they say brass is making a comeback, there were dozens of beautiful polished nickel chandeliers - these were two of my favorites. I love the simplicity of the geometric shapes - wouldn't that make a statement in a loft foyer?
In this lake house dining room with its paneled ceiling and massive wood table base, the waterfall chandelier adds the perfect iridescent sparkle- almost bringing the lake into this woodsy indoor space.
I just ordered this chandelier for one of my clients who is moving into a new home where the formal dining room will open to a more casual family space. The antique mirror finish complements the existing traditional nickel fixtures in the home while the rectangular shantung shade offers a more relaxed feel.
The graceful crystal arms on this chandelier add some understated sparkle.
The twinkling glass orbs of this bubble chandelier are quite fun and unexpected given the traditional symmetry of the lamps and chairs in this lovely space.
Be sure to hang them at the right height to illuminate both sides of your face (perfect for applying make-up).
Pendant lights are usually found above islands in kitchens, but pendants are a great alternative to wall mounted sconces in bathrooms.
Pendants are a great way to add color in an otherwise neutral space. It can be a subtle touch, as in this grey kitchen above...or a vibrant red "pop".
Even practical swing arm lamps don't have to be boring...check these out...
Personally, I'm a big fan of lamps because they allow you to bring your personality into a room at a very reasonable cost. I'm always hunting around Home Goods and bringing something new home. I absolutely love these unique lamps - blown glass with hand painted silk shades...simply beautiful in a romantic boudoir.
Finally, make sure you're using the right bulbs! Some of these newer, energy efficient bulbs cast the most awful colors in a room. I prefer, and usually specify for my clients, the Reveal bulb by GE. They're a bit more expensive, but these color-enhanced full spectrum light bulbs make your whites appear whiter, reds redder, and allow patterns throughout your home to "pop".
